Almost every winter, I'll have a customer ring me in a panic.
They’ll tell me how their faithful old oil-fired cooker (that’s been going strong for over 25 years) has finally given up.
So it’s 3 degrees outside. They have no heating. No hot water. And no cooker.
As soon as the cold sets in, I always get a flurry of calls like this. Cookers on their last legs tend to choose the worst possible moment to retire.
Now, the good news:
I’ve had four customers in the past few weeks who’ve replaced their ageing cookers before winter struck.
Each one had been plodding along for decades, but the signs were showing: expensive repairs, declining efficiency, and a general sense of “one more winter might be pushing it.”
If you’re still relying on an older oil or gas-fired central-heating cooker, now really is the time to start thinking about what comes next.
The advantage of these old setups is that everything’s already in place – the flue, the oil or gas supply, the pipework to the heating system. Which means, when they reach the end, a modern like-for-like replacement (Rayburn or Heritage) can often slot straight in…
And if you act in the summer months, you’ve got:
Of course, you don’t have to make a move now. But even just having a chat about what’s possible, like how the lead times are looking, could save you from a much more stressful decision later in the year.
Warm regards,
Andy
P.S. If you’ve had a central-heating cooker for years, it’s worth knowing there are still modern versions that can cook your dinner and warm your radiators. We’ve got them in the showroom if you want to come take a look.
